Thinking About Getting Married at Highcliffe Castle? Here’s What I’d Tell My Best Friend.

A romantic Dorset coastal wedding scene evoking the setting of Highcliffe Castle

To be honest with you…

If someone asked me to recommend one wedding venue in Dorset without knowing anything about their wedding…

Highcliffe Castle would definitely be one I’d tell them to go and see.

Not because it’s the biggest.

Not because it’s the most expensive.

And definitely not because it’s the trendiest.

Simply because every time I visit, it feels special.

You’ve got incredible coastal views, stunning architecture and enough history to make the whole place feel magical without feeling stuffy. It strikes that balance between elegant and relaxed, which, if you’ve spent any time on my Instagram, you’ll know is exactly my kind of wedding.

But before you fall in love with the photos (because trust me, you probably will), here’s what I’d tell any couple if we were chatting over a coffee.

Why Highcliffe Castle is one of my favourite wedding venues in Dorset

If you’re searching for wedding venues in Dorset, you’ll probably come across Highcliffe Castle pretty quickly.

And for good reason.

It’s a Grade I listed castle sitting right on the Dorset and Hampshire border, overlooking Christchurch Bay.

Which means…

Amazing ceremony backdrops.

Beautiful gardens.

Sea views.

And some of the dreamiest wedding photos you’ll ever have.

It’s one of those venues that already has so much character that you don’t feel like you need to spend thousands trying to transform it.

The venue does a lot of the hard work for you.

Is Highcliffe Castle right for every couple?

To be honest with you…

No.

And I don’t think any wedding venue is.

If your dream wedding is a huge festival-style celebration that goes on until the early hours, there are probably venues I’d recommend first.

But if you’re looking for somewhere that feels romantic without being overly traditional, elegant without feeling intimidating, and relaxed enough that your guests can actually enjoy themselves…

I’d absolutely put Highcliffe Castle on your shortlist.

I especially think it suits couples who want their wedding to feel personal rather than performative.

The kind of couples who care more about the atmosphere than whether their napkins are folded into swans.

(You know the ones.)

The things nobody tells you before booking Highcliffe Castle

This is the bit I wish more wedding planners talked about.

Because yes, Pinterest photos are lovely…

But they’re not what makes a wedding run smoothly.

Think about your timeline.

Highcliffe Castle photographs beautifully.

Which also means you’ll probably want to spend some time outside taking photos.

If you’re getting married in the winter months, daylight disappears much earlier than people realise.

As your wedding planner, I’d always build your timeline around making the most of that gorgeous light.

Those little details make a huge difference.

Think about your guests.

One of my favourite things about Highcliffe Castle is that guests have somewhere lovely to explore.

They’re not just sat in one room waiting for the next thing to happen.

They can wander the gardens, enjoy the sea views and actually experience the venue.

That might sound like a small thing…

But it changes the whole atmosphere of the day.

Have a wet weather plan.

We’re in Dorset.

Need I say more? 😂

The good news is that Highcliffe Castle still feels beautiful if the weather doesn’t quite get the memo.

One of the biggest jobs of a wedding planner is making sure Plan B feels just as exciting as Plan A.

Because the weather is the one supplier none of us can control.

“But my venue already has a coordinator…”

This is probably the question I’d expect next.

And it’s a really good one.

Highcliffe Castle has a fantastic events team.

They’re there to make sure the venue runs exactly as it should.

My job is a little different.

I’m there for you.

I’m making sure your suppliers know where they’re going.

Checking everyone’s arrived.

Keeping an eye on the timeline.

Answering questions before they reach you.

Finding the missing buttonhole.

Calming nervous family members.

Making sure your photographer gets those ten minutes with you both before everyone starts asking for selfies.

Basically…

I’m the person quietly keeping everything ticking along so you don’t have to think about any of it.

My favourite part of a wedding at Highcliffe Castle

If you’ve spoken to me before, you’ll already know the answer.

It’s the walk down the aisle.

Every single time.

It doesn’t matter how many weddings I go to.

That moment never gets old.

Watching everyone turn around.

Seeing your partner’s face.

The deep breath before the doors open.

Honestly…

I don’t think I’ll ever stop getting emotional.

And Highcliffe Castle somehow makes that moment feel even more magical.

Would I recommend Highcliffe Castle?

Without hesitation.

But not because it’s “Instagram-worthy.”

Because it’s one of those venues that lets your wedding be about you.

Not about following traditions.

Not about impressing people.

Not about ticking boxes.

Just celebrating with the people you love.

And, to be honest with you…

Isn’t that what a wedding should be?
